Zinsser Smart Prime (Water Based Technology)
We have been using this product as an undercoat over previously glossed enamel surfaces in WA and it is a fantastic product.
Applied by brush it dries back like a spray finish with no brush marks and provides a solid base for top coating with an Acrylic Gloss or Satin. It also has very good adhesion properties.
We previously tried the Dulux Prep Lock but found this product was a little ropey and more difficult to apply compared to the Smart Prime.
If you're looking for a water based product as a primer undercoat over enamel surfaces which is easy to use, saves you time and provides a great key for top coats, we recommend this product for sure. It comes in 1,3.75,10 and 19litres.

Re: Zinsser Smart Prime
Thanks for the tip. i would like to see if they can distribute it here in Fiji. I might get on the net and have a look.
I am not a fan of water based primers over alkyd to be honest. Does this primer work as well as an alkyd undercoat?

Re: Zinsser Smart Prime
Yes this product has been specifically made to go over these surfaces as well as act as a stain block. In our opinion it works better than any alkyd undercoat because of ease of application and how well it dries (no brush marks).
When we applied it as a stain block we thought it didn't work at first as you can still see the stain after it's applied. We then waited for it to dry and applied final coats and no stain bled through.
We'd recommend you try get hold of the product to at least trial it and see. Be good to get your thoughts.

Re: Zinsser Smart Prime
Will do definitely, I have used the Zinsser stain sealer years ago, but it was not then promoted as an alkyd primer.
Thanks for the feedback.
