7 day invoice

Post by PR Painting » Sun Oct 14, 2012 10:12 am

Hi guys, I thought i would share what we do, which is probaly mandatory these days... We issue a 7 day invoice on completion of job. Depends on size of job if we ask for a deposit, quarterly payment or halfway payment. I think the 7 days is standard and most people are happy to pay within this time...What are your terms for payment?...happy painting

We take a 10% deposit on acceptance of quote, with progress payments for larger jobs, or jobs performed in multiple stages around other trades etc.
All invoices apart from deposit (which are prepaid) are 7day invoices.

I usually do a $500 retention for clients at the end of a larger job (usually $6500 and up) which I bill out after 2 weeks to make sure they are happy. I have found this taking a $500 retention gets the main invoice paid quicker as they are not hesitant to hand over the money before they have thoroughly checked it. It is a sign of good will, for theirs.

It really depends on the size of the job undertaken. If it is a small paint job, then 7 days is pretty rational and a common timeframe. However, if it involves a much bigger area like a storage facility or other commercial locations, then progress payment methods are highly advisable. This is especially true if the project is going to last over a period of time and not just a week or so.
