What is a Group Training Organisation?
- Group Training Organisations offer expert advice and assistance to find the right apprenticeship.
- GTOs place apprentices with a range of small and large host businesses who provide on the job training so with a GTO you have more choice and opportunities
- GTOs ensure you recieve all your entitlements and they monitor your progress offering support as you need it.
What are the benefits of 'hosting' an apprentice?
An employer gets all the benefits of carefully selected apprentices, short or long term, without the burden of paperwork and payroll. A GTO:
- Employs apprentices and then place them with employers for as long as they need them.
- Take care of the paperwork for allowances, wages, workers compensation, superannuation etc and are there throughout the period of the apprenticeship.
- Provide a safety net for host employers who have a carefully selected apprentice without the worries of a long-term contract, helping them meet staffing needs.
- Source Government rebates and incentives for host employers
- Act as consultants for host employers and apprentices during the entire period of training and employment
What are an employers responsibilities when they take on an apprentice?
- The employer must work with the GTO to ensure that:
- The workplace has a range of facilities and work required for training
- There is an acceptable number of tradespeople or qualified persons in the workplace.
- They deliver training to the apprentice as required in the training plan.
- The apprentice is supervised at all times
- the apprentice has all necessary inductions and a safe work environment
- they release the apprentice from work duties to participate in training delivered by the Registered Training Organisation.
If an Employer uses a GTO do they still receive Government incentive payments for taking on an apprentice?
Yes, they still receive the benefit of Australian Government incentive payments.
Who monitors the Apprentice's Training progress?
The GTO ensures the apprentice is on track to complete their qualification and is developing the skills needed to be successful in the workplace.
